Cat and Kitten Coloring Pages: How to Create Realistic Cats
Cats can be grouped by their fur patterns, and with a few tips, you can make these kitten coloring pages look surprisingly realistic!
For a smoky fur effect, try shading just the tips of the fur. This works best on simpler outlined cat images. Start by coloring the base fur in a solid tone, then use pencils to add highlights in shades like brown or gray. First, draw gray or black hairs, then layer in brown strokes. To create a “chinchilla” effect, shade only the top eighth of each hair. Kids over 6 might really enjoy this detailed technique!
Colorpoint cats are easy to bring to life. For the base, choose white or beige (you can mix a little brown into white paint), and darken the cat’s paws, face, and tail with deeper shades. Don’t forget the eye color: Siamese cats have blue eyes, while Burmese cats have yellow ones.
For a tortoiseshell cat, combine black with orange or beige with blue to get that unique look.
Tabby cats have narrow stripes or spots across their bodies—think tiger stripes!
